1. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder = used to express the fact that not all people have the same opinions about what is attractive: vẻ đẹp nằm trong đôi mắt của kẻ si tình
Example: Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Even the ugliest of people will have someone who finds them attractive, for beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as goes the saying.
2. The apple of sb's eye = the person who someone loves most and is very proud of: cụm này có ý chỉ người nào đó được mình trân trọng và vô cùng quý giá với mình.
Example: His youngest daughter was the apple of his eye.
3. Bird's-eye view (n) /ˈbɜrdˌzɑɪ ˈvju/: the ability to look at something from a very high place so that you see a large area below you: tầm nhìn bao quát
Example: From the top of this building, you can get a bird’s-eye view of the city.
3. Have an eye for sth = to be good at noticing a particular type of thing: có gu/ thẩm mỹ về cái gì đó….
Example: My aunt has an eye for home decoration and always finds beautiful paintings and antiques at the flea market.
4. Catch someone’s eye = to cause someone to notice something or someone: bắt gặp ánh mắt ai đó, làm ai đó phải chú ý
Example: I was looking around the store for a present for my mom, and this book caught my eye.
5. Sb's eyes are bigger than their belly/stomach = something that you say when someone has taken more food than they can eat: No bụng đói con con mắt
Example: I remember one crazy night when my best friend had eyes bigger than his stomach. He ordered more than six different meals!
6. Open someone’s eyes = to show someone something, esp. something surprising or shocking that the person had not known about or understood before: ngộ ra điều gì…
Example: She opened my eyes to how stupid I’d been.
7. Be in the public eye = to be famous and written about in newspapers and magazines and seen on television: luôn bị dư luận soi xét
Example: If you want to be an actor you better like being in the public eye.
8. Keep your/an eye on sth/sb = to watch or take care of something or someone: để mắt, canh chừng…
Example: Will you keep your eye on my suitcase while I go to get the tickets?
9. See eye to eye = If two people see eye to eye, they agree with each other: có cùng quan điểm
Example: My sisters don't see eye to eye with me about the arrangements.
10. Turn a blind eye = to ignore something that you know is wrong: mắt nhắm mắt mở cho qua, bỏ qua
Example: Management often turn a blind eye to bullying in the workplace.
11. Raise (a few) eyebrows = to cause surprise or shock: chau mày
Example: Jemma’s miniskirt raised a few eyebrows at the board meeting.
